Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from the 4–10 fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), with an added Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide tail designed to improve stability. First described in the late 1980s, Semax has the amino acid sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro.

It has a molecular formula of C₃₈H₅₄N₁₂O₉ and a molecular weight of approximately 826.92 g/mol. The Pro-Gly-Pro tail is a structural feature designed to increase resistance to enzymatic degradation compared to the native ACTH fragment.
